Few individuals stand out as beacons of grassroots advocacy in a city known for its powerful institutions. For over 25 years, Ambrose Lane Jr. has been a force for change in the District of Columbia, dedicating his career to improving health equity and addressing health disparities in marginalized communities. As the Founder and Chair of the Health Alliance Network, he has worked tirelessly to ensure that the voices of D.C.’s most vulnerable residents are heard and acted upon.
Ambrose’s. contributions extend far beyond the Health Alliance Network’s achievements. He has built a career as a long-time activist, organizer, and community leader in the District of Columbia. His leadership in health equity advocacy has led to significant policy changes, including forming critical health-focused partnerships and creating initiatives that directly impact underserved populations. Beyond his activism and advocacy, he is a devoted father and husband.
As a Certified Master Trainer for Stanford University’s Chronic Disease and Diabetes Self-Management Program, a co-founder of the Black Coalition Against COVID (BCAC), and a two-time Mayoral appointee to the DC Commission on Health Equity, Ambrose continues to champion the fight for better health outcomes in marginalized communities. His tireless work with youth, elected officials, and community leaders has made him a well-known and respected figure in D.C., especially in his home, Ward 7.
Honoring Women’s Journeys: Her Story Matters
The Her Story Matters initiative exemplifies Ambrose’s commitment to uplifting others. Launched in 2015, this annual celebration honors African American women and women from the diaspora living in Washington, DC, who have triumphed over breast cancer. The event shines a spotlight on their stories, journeys, and victories, inspiring others with their resilience and strength.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Her Story Matters, a significant milestone in its mission to transform silence into shared triumph. Ambrose’s personal connection to the cause, through his family and community, fuels his passion for creating a supportive space for these women, making his commitment deeply personal and emotionally charged.
